Your Experian Credit Check
Experian is one of the many credit bureaux in South Africa that provide credit information on consumers to credit establishments. A debt counsellor can access your credit information and run an Experian credit check, amongst others to assess the status of your debt. There are many levels of rating from a good credit rating which means you always pay your bills on time to blacklisting which means you have failed to meet your financial obligations to your creditors. It is important to be aware of your credit rating with all credit bureaux in South Africa at all times so as not to have any trouble applying for credit.
If you find that you are over indebted or blacklisted from your Experian credit check, you can apply for debt review. Once your application has been successful, your debt counsellor will contact all the relevant credit bureaux and your credit rating will reflect you debt review status. This means that you will not be able to enter into any new credit agreements during the debt review process. All your creditors will also be made aware of your status and will not be able to institute any legal or other action against during the period.
All credit bureaux are regulated by th National Credit Act of 2007 and the National Credit Regulator. The Act and the Regulator are there to ensure that the information held by the credit bureaux is correct and dealt with discreetly. According to the Act, a credit bureau may only keep a blacklisting on person for five years from the period of the judgement or until the judgement is rescinded by the court. If you find that you have been incorrectly black listed and are unable to rectify the situation, you can contact the National Credit Regulator to assist in having your name cleared.
